#23 - The end of the beginning

I have at last made the time to complete the exercises involved in the 23Things journey of discovery.
I mostly enjoyed and found most useful working with the photos and images - Flickr has been a most useful tool for sharing photos both at work (Chess photos) and with family and friends.

I am sure that I will take part in any other discovery type program that introduces and allows participation in exploring new technologies as they emerge.

#22 NetLibrary - social networking

Pity about not being able to access NetLibrary, but did as suggested and went to Myspace and Facebook for a look around - would like to see how libraries are using these social networking sites to reach out to users.

Inside a Dog is a site that allows sharing (including podcasts) of like minded people - no social networking though.

#21 - Podcasts, Smodcasts - Fobcast!!

Used Podcatalley.com -had trouble listening to some of the podcasts on this computer - don't know what I was doing wrong .
Enjoyed the Rugby Fobcast podcast - very funny and looks at rugby union from an alternative point of view - a bit like the Could Have Been Champions on the ABC. Here is a bit more information about it.

The Rugby Fobcast is a classic example of what happens when Pacific Islanders have control of there own Rugby Show. Sione Pepe hosts a Rugby show like no other, based in Sydney they cover all things rugby in Australian New Zealand South African of course the great region that is Polynesia. Talking about Super 14 2007 all the way through to what will be a bumper Rugby World Cup 2007 France, allow Sione Pepe to entertain you through what can only be described as the year Rugby ruled our lives!

Also went to Yahoo! Podcasts
FYI - Yahoo is closing down their podcasts site on 31st October 2007

#20 - You too can YouTube

As a result of a search of Mildura on Youtube I found this video of our Yr 12 students playing downball. - I wonder if Joelene knows she's a star on Youtube??!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YsTmaMP4iU

I'm not sure I can see any applications for use in our Library - but I'm sure someone else can think of one!!

#19 - Discovering Web 2.0 tools

After going to the Web 2.0 Awards site I went to Mashups and looked at Coverpop - Jim Bumgardner came up again and through searching his free software came up with this website that may be of use to this Library Free Chess Online - maybe we could add it to the whitelist!??

#18 Web-based applications - ZOHO

The thing I like about ZOHO web-based software and others is that they eliminate the need to worry about different software versions or file types as you email documents or move from PC to PC. Solves the problem that some of our students have sending and opening work at home using different versions of Microsoft Office

#17 Creating an entry to Sandbox wiki

I have created an entry on the Learning 2.0 SandBox wiki. and added my favorite fantasy authors on my favorites page

I have also added my blog to the Favorite Blogs page under the Australian list to say that I've made it there.

#16 Wikis

What I found interesting that I found on
Library Success - a best practices Wiki
is an online reference service for students, which enables users to get direct, real time, online help from a reference librarian in finding quality information to meet their school work needs.

You can view it here at AnyQuestions.co.nz

Also found it interesting that because of vandalism problems, e-mail confirmation is now required before you can add to this wiki.

#14 tags and blogs and #15

#14 - I found the Blog directory in Technorati gave more specific results for my subject search - I used "literacy" as well as learning 2.0 - found an interesting site by David Warwick which I bookmarked.

#15 I agree with Dr Wendy Schulz in her article in NextSpace, that tagclouds offer diverse connections, not focussed expertise. I see librarians of the future as guides to using new technologies.

#13 del.icio.us registration

I decided not to register on del.icio.us as the security warning from our home computer sent a warning that the file type could potentially harm this computer. This is as far as I went.

#12 Creating a search roll

Using Rolly0, I have created my own search roll on Travel. Here is the link to my page.

#11 Library thing catalogue

Well, if thatisn't gthe easiest way to keep a record of what you have been reading. Will add to it when I have more time, at the moment I've only put 8 books on. I bet Naomi wishes cataloguing was so easy in real life!

#10 Online Image generator

I used FTD toys to create a picture cube using the Chess photos I posted on Flickr. I didn't print it but you can see the template here.

#9 RSS feeds again

I found Technorati the easiest way of finding feeds on topics I was interested in.
I am not very interested in news and am yet to get in to podcasts in a big way.

#8 RSS feeds and blogline

I have set up my blogline and have suscribed to 8 feeds. It can be viewed here at

#7 New technology - libray work blog.

Am finding the new Library Catchup blog we are are part of at work very handy when I need to know what is happening, or let everyone else know what I am up to very quickly. It is a very useful tool.

#6 More Flickr fun

Went to Jim Bumgarden's Squared Circle Poster Project - have not been successful adding an image to show everyone what the poster looks like - I think it is worth looking at anyway !

#6 - Flickr photo sharing site

I used Flickr some time ago to post photos to enable others to access them easliy from other schools. They were photos I took while on a trip to Colac for an interschool Chess tournament. They were easily accessed by all who needed to view them and they were tagged with chess, photos,Colac.
You can view the photos at the website below, or just go to Flickr and search using the 3 tags I have put on the photos

#3 and #4

I have been able to set up this blog and add items to it - I did it months ago but didn't add to this blog about it - pays to read ALL of the instructions!!

7 Habits of Highly successful learners

If only I had all of these 30 years ago - never mind - I think I have always had Habit 3 - viewing problems as challenges comes easily. What is most difficult, is having the time to incorporate all the fantastic technology tools available in my work time. The remaining 21things will be done outside working hours. So Habit #6 will be the hardest to acquire

AAHHblogging

I called my blog AAHHblogging as I think it show how I feel aboout blogging right now. I am relatively new to this, although I did create a travbuddy blog last year when I was overseas.
My problem with blogging is that I don't always believe what I read and see on other people's blogs, even though I try to keep mine honest and relevant.
